Synthetic Vs. Real Diamonds

Thanks to modern technological wizardry, it is now possible to produce diamonds in the lab in only three days, a process that takes nature several thousand years. Opting for a real diamond or one of the new simulants is a matter of personal preferences.
  1. Cost

    • As they only take days to make, synthetic diamonds are much cheaper than their mined equivalents. A genuine one-carat diamond, colorless and without flaws, retails near $20,000; the simulant retails at under $500.

    Perfection

    • The majority of real diamonds has a defect in the form of some flaw or unwanted color tint. Synthetic diamonds match the highest international grading standards.

    Making a Statement

    • If putting on a show for your friends and neighbors is what matters to you, then synthetic diamonds offer plenty of bling for your buck.

    Investment

    • For those who like to buy with an eye to a good investment, real diamonds are probably the way to go. As a natural resource, they will only become scarcer.

    Authenticity

    • However beautiful it may be, a synthetic diamond is likely only a few months old when you place it on your own or your beloved's finger. A real diamond has history. Some even have stories and legends attached to them. It's hard to put a price on that kind of romance.
