How to Identify Long Pods

Many plants produce long pods in order to adequately propagate themselves. However, long pods don't always resemble the plant. In order to identify specific pods, you'll need to know where to look and how to identify their major characteristics.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a long pod sample. Look on trails, marches and open fields. Once you find a pod, put on your gloves and use the tweezers to pick it and place it into the plastic bag.

    • 2

Feel and hold the pod carefully. Distinctive identifiers of the pod can be easily spoiled if handled roughly. Put the long pods in a plastic bag.

    • 3

Categorize its characteristics so that you can reduce the type of long pod choices available.

    • 4

Acquire a field guide at a local book store. Look for an equivalent in the long pod guide. The book will showcase long pods and isolate them by size, feel and color.
