How to Set an Elgin Key Wind Watch

The Elgin Watch Company began in 1864 under the name National Watch Company and introduced its first watch in May 1867. The first watch was named the "B.W. Raymond" watch and was railroad grade. The company changed its name to the "Elgin National Watch Company" in 1874 and went on to produce nearly 60 million watches. One of the watches the company produced was a key winding watch, which is set using a small key to wind the watch hands. Winding an Elgin key watch is relatively simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the watch key end inside the small shaft located in the center of the watch back.

    • 2

Turn the key in a clockwise direction until the desired time is set on the watch face. Do not force the key or touch the hands or watch mechanisms.

    • 3

Remove the key from the watch and set in a safe place where it will not be lost or reattach it to the top of the watch.
