How to Identify Vintage I.H. Harrison Tools

I.H. Harrison's "tool-holder" patent was filed in South Australia on Jan 23, 1899. A genuine first production (1903-04) of this impressively unique and rare tool has an estimated worth of more than $100 depending on its condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the steel spine attached to the spindle carriage containing the 15 steel headscrews. This steel spine is attached to a brass baseplate containing two metal pins on either end.

    • 2

Locate the patent number 637735 between these pins. If the number is different, then you are not in possession of a Harrison tool of the first production.

    • 3

Look for another identifying mark, and search for this mark in any tool collectible database in case the number has been erased or it has eroded.
