Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find a suitable environment within your home. Constant changes in temperature damage the money's ink, so avoid basements, attics and bathrooms. The ideal environment for preserving paper, according to the Library of Congress, is 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Areas such as closets, drawers or wall safes provide the best environment to store money.
Place your antique money away from light, pollution or dust. Fluorescent bulbs and sunlight emit ultraviolet rays that can damage your item, while fumes and dust from photocopy machines, car exhausts and heating systems can damage paper.
Place your antique money inside a stock sheet folder once you have found a suitable environment away from fumes or light. These protective folders are acid-free, so they prevent any acidity from damaging the paper. In addition, stock-sheet folders provide the stiffness necessary for protecting your money from tears or creases.
