How to Change the Coin Choice on a Bubble Gum Machine

Bubble gum machines are found in all kinds of locations, such as grocery stores, restaurants and other stores, waiting to catch someone's eye who wants a little sweet taste. You can also find them for sale on occasion to use as decor in a game room or child's bedroom. If you want to use the machine as a way to save money or even earn some, the coin mechanism might need changing. If it is a penny or nickel slot, you won't save near as much as you would with a quarter slot. Switching out the slots is very easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the key in the top of the bubble gum machine and turn it to unlock. There is a metal bar attached to the top plate of the machine that runs down through the glass enclosure, through the change tank and into the bottom. Continue twisting the key slot to unscrew the bar from the bottom.

    • 2

Lift the top of the change tank, which is also the bottom plate for the candy jar.

    • 3

Slide the coin mechanism out. It sits in a opening of the change tank and slides up once the top is off.

    • 4

Slide in the new coin mechanism and lower the tank top and candy jar back down on top of it. These are available at various online sites that sell gum ball machine parts. A few such sites include Gumball.com, Gumballmachinesdirect.com and Gumballmachinefactorycom. You must replace the mechanism to change the coin type. There is no way to change the coin option without replacing the mechanism.

    • 5

Screw the bar back in place by twisting the key slot clockwise.
