Things You'll Need
Instructions
Examine your piece carefully. This important step can easily be overlooked. For small items, use a magnifying glass to check for imprints, logos, dates, engravings and other pieces of evidence that will go on to help you determine the value of your item.
Note any interesting markings or engravings on your items. Things like manufacturer names, dates and item numbers can greatly expedite your research on an antique.
Search for your item on eBay. If it has sold on eBay recently, note the price. Look carefully at any item pictures to find differences between this item and your item. If the eBay item was sold by a reputable seller for a high price, then assume that the item on eBay is real. Compare this against your item to help you better determine if your antiquity is real.
Consult an appraiser. Typically, appraisals work best in person, so find a reputable appraiser in your local area and bring your item in. Never sell your item to the company that conducts the appraisal.
