How to Assemble Kieninger Clock Movements

Clock movements enable a clock to run and to keep accurate time. Kieninger Clock Movements are parts that go inside and outside the clock and contain both inner and outer clock mechanisms. These mechanisms also include movements which work together within the clock in synchronized order. If the mechanisms are not in sync or if one is malfunctioning, the movements of the clock will not work correctly.

  Take your Kieninger Clock and place it on a flat table surface. Open up the back of the clock with a small pair of pliers, if necessary. Look inside the clock to see what types of movements are already in the clock. Add the movements that enable the clock to function, such as the mainspring and the gears.

  Check to see that the mainspring and gears are functioning correctly if they are already inside the clock. Oil the mainspring at the pivot points with clock oil, being careful not to over oil.

  Oil the gear wheels of the clock where the section wheels rub together. Maintain the clock movements by oiling them at least once every three years to keep the parts in good working condition. Close the back of the clock so no dust or moisture gets inside.

  Position the clock on a wall or, if the Kieninger Clock is a standing clock, in the place the clock will permanently stay. It is important not to move a clock once the weighted mechanisms, pendulum and movements are installed.

  Hook the weights to the front of the clock, where the hook mechanism for the weights is located; make sure the weights do not become tangled. Look at the bottom of the weights to see that they are in the right position and adjust accordingly. The weights will be marked left, right and center.

  Hang the pendulum next. The pendulum is the movement of the clock responsible for regulating clock speed. Make sure the shiny side of the pendulum is facing front. Hang the pendulum from the pendulum hook; the pendulum is always in front of the weights. Adjust the speed on the pendulum by moving the pendulum nut to either the right or left. Moving the pendulum nut in either direction will make it go faster or slower.

  Watch how the clock runs by listening to the ticking sound after all movements have been added and adjusted, and regulate the speed accordingly.

  Set the time on the clock last, by moving the hands counterclockwise. Move the small minute hand first, and set it on the hour you want the clock to chime, if it's a sounding clock. Wind the hour hand around one time, and set it on the 12. Do not
