How to Store Old German Bibles

Martin Luther was the first to translate the Bible's New Testament into German in 1522; he finished translating the remainder of the Bible by 1530. Many different styles of German Bibles exist in 2011, and many of the original German Bibles are worth thousands of dollars. Store your German Bible properly to reduce the chances of damaging the artifact. Old German Bibles typically last for many years with proper care and storage.

Instructions

    • 1

Store your German Bibles out of direct sunlight. Sunlight causes books to fade and deteriorate.

    • 2

Line up the Bibles in a vertical position on a smooth, flat shelf. Keep the Bibles with other books of the same height. This reduces the chances of warping.

    • 3

Place the Bibles on a wooden shelf protected with a sealant, or on a shelf made of plastic or glass. Unsealed wood releases acidic vapors that might damage the Bibles.

    • 4

Store the Bibles in a dry, temperature-controlled area. Avoid storing the Bibles in a basement or attic; temperature changes and humidity levels might damage the Bibles.

    • 5

Store the Bibles in an archival box if they are not on display. Custom-fit the boxes to securely store your Bibles.
