How to Collect Antique License Plates

Collecting antique license plates has become so popular, there is an Automobile License Plate Collectors Association. Collecting license plates is a hobby that anyone (young or old) can do. It's easy to identify license plates because the year of plates is usually made clear. Plates identified by years could also make you more money. Older license plates are worth more because they are so rare.

  Check an old car garage or junk yard. Cars, that have been brought to a garage or junk yard, should still have license plates on them. You will be able to purchase them from the garage's or junk yard's manager. Look for the license plates that are older, since they are worth more.

  Check your grandfather's garage. If your grandfather is a car enthusiast or has an older car, he should still have an antique license plate. Even if your grandparent has a new car, they might still have an old license plate. With a new car, your license plate changes.

  Check AAA. The Auto Club of Southern California (AAA) lets you purchase license plates at just under $50. AAA also have custom-made license plates you can purchase. Flea markets and yard sales can also carry license plates. At flea markets and yard sales, you can haggle the seller and purchase your antique license plates for a cheaper price.

  Purchase your antique license planets online. Websites, such as Amazon, ebay, and Craigslist, are great places to search for and buy license plates. You should make sure that the license plates are legit. Ask the seller for pictures of the license plates. Check for scratches, rust stains, and compare real license plates pictures.
