Instructions

    • 1

Completely coat the pedal assembly parts of the Singer treadle sewing machine with WD-40. This will loosen and remove rust and grime that may be on the pedal assembly.

    • 2

Use the crescent wrench to disassemble the pedal assembly of the Singer treadle sewing machine. Do this by first using the crescent wrench to remove the nut and bolt where the pitman rod connects to the pedal at the bottom of the pedal assembly. Then use the crescent wrench to remove the nut and bolt at the top where the pitman rod, or power bar, connects to the flywheel. This should fully free the pitman rod. Be careful to fully remove the pitman rod that connects the pedal to the flywheel so that you don't cause the machine to operate while you are restoring it.

    • 3

Scrub the disassembled pieces using the steel wool. This will remove the rust and grime buildup that may be on the pedal parts of the machine.

    • 4

Apply metal polish to the cloth rag. Then rub down the metal pieces with the metal polish. This will restore and preserve the pieces.

    • 5

Use the crescent wrench to reassemble the pedal assembly. Do this by first reinserting the nut and bolt into the top of the pitman rod and then tightening it up with the crescent wrench. Then reinsert the nut and bolt at the bottom of the pitman rod where it meets the pedal and then tighten it up with the crescent wrench. Be careful to fully fit the power bar back into the flywheel and pedal or the machine will not operate properly. Apply the light machine grease by squirting some of it into the main axle of the flywheel and into the points where the pitman rod meets the pedal and the flywheel. Once this is done the pedal assembly of the machine is fully restored.
