How to Identify Anchor Hocking

Located in Lancaster, Ohio, Anchor Hocking is the leading producer of glass wares in the U.S., having been in production since 1905. Due to its popularity (and the general popularity of Depression-era glassware among antique collectors), Anchor Hocking glassware is widely imitated and even forged. Therefore, you must know what identifying marks to look for to ensure you have an authentic Anchor Hocking glass piece.

Look at your glass piece. One of the most common Anchor Hocking Glass identification markings is an anchor. If the piece is vintage, the marking will most likely be on the back side or on the bottom of the piece. Look for the company name stamped onto the piece. "Anchor" and a capital letter "H" should be present.

Contact the curator of the Anchor Hocking Museum, Philip L. Hopper. For a small consultation fee, he may be able to help you identify your glassware. According to his website, Hopper helps with identification only if you send a picture of your piece. He is one of the leading experts in Anchor Hocking glassware; however, he makes no guarantee that he will be able to positively identify your piece.

Familiarize yourself with Depression-era glass pieces. There are many reputable antique dealers and resellers, such as K &M Antique Store, that carry Depression-era glassware and have online catalogs that may help in identification of your particular piece.
