Look at the pattern of the piece to determine when it was made. Rogers Bros. made more elaborate pieces during the 19th century, but once it folded into the International Silver Company, the pieces became more basic. Scrolled edges and unusually-shaped handles usually indicate an earlier pattern.
Find patterns with a curved edge and interlocking rectangles, with little other decoration. This is one of the more popular pieces and dates to 1930. The Art Modern inspired piece has the Rogers Bros. logo on the back.
Turn the piece over and look for the 1847 Roger Bros. logo. All silverplate pieces from Rogers Brothers had its logo on the back and the type of logo found determines the date of the piece. Common marks include one with a XS Triple stamped onto one side and the mark with an AI next to the logo.
Check for a stamp on the piece, with an IS next to the Rogers Brothers name. This logo appeared in 1898 and is still used today. Keep in mind that the International Silver Company still creates silverplate pieces under the Rogers Bros. name.
Compare your piece against pictures on silver collecting websites, such as Silver Collecting and Silver Pattern. Rogers Brothers released over 100 different patterns, not including the more modern pieces. These websites lists different variations of the logo, as well as a large majority of the silver patterns.
