How to Fill a Sheaffer Feather Touch Fountain Pen

The Sheaffer pen company was founded in 1912 by a man named Walter A. Sheaffer, who had created a lever-based pen refilling system. Sheaffer took his life savings, invested it into his idea and opened a shop in the back of his jewelry store. Shaeffer pens have been used to sign many important historical documents, and many still use a lever-based filling system. Sheaffer pens are easy to refill using this system, and simply require some basic knowledge.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the top from the ink bottle and the cap from the pen. Place the ink bottle on a level surface where it will not tip or spill.

    • 2

Find the small lever on the side of the fountain pen, and lift it slowly until it stops moving.

    • 3

Place the nib (writing end) of the pen into the ink. The ink should cover about half of the nib.

    • 4

Push the lever down slowly, then count to 10. This process will fill the pen with ink.

    • 5

Remove the pen from the ink, cover the ink pot and remove excess ink from the nib of the pen.

    • 6

Test your pen--if it writes correctly, you are finished.
