History
Fostoria Glass operated from 1887 to 1986. Although it produced quality glassware for nearly a century and turned out millions of beautiful pieces, the company was unable to compete with foreign companies and new technology, which led to its demise.
Features
Fostoria glass can be either clear or colored. The company was famous for producing etched, blown and pressed dinnerware, barware, serving pieces and decorative glass items.
Identification
Collectors identify Fostoria glass by looking for thick glass in one of the many famous patterns owned by the company. Some of the most popular patterns were Baroque, Colony, Sunray and Versailles.
Fun Fact
Fostoria provided presidential glassware for each United States president from Dwight D. Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan.
Warning
L.E. Smith Glass Co. now owns the molds for the Fostoria American line; however, the newly made items do not hold the same value as the original pieces.
