Things You'll Need
Instructions
Treat stains on your chenille bedspread. Use 1/2 cup of a color-safe peroxide-based bleach and 1/2 cup dishwashing detergent per gallon of hot water. Allow plenty of water for your chenille bedspread. Soak. If it is particularly dirty, simmer your bedspread on the stove at a very low heat.
Launder the chenille bedspread. Never store soiled textiles. Chenille bedspreads are easy to launder. Place the bedspread in your washing machine with a small amount of detergent. Allow it to agitate for around 30 seconds, then soak overnight. Rinse, using your washing machine's rinse cycle, and spin out the excess water. Dry in the dryer, flat or on the clothesline.
Choose a suitable storage space for your vintage chenille bedspreads. Avoid storing textiles in an attic, basement or garage. Linen closets, cedar chests or even space under a bed are all better choices. You can also store your bedspreads on beds or quilt racks.
Place clean cotton muslin over your bedspread to protect the fabric. Roll or fold the bedspreads. If you are folding your chenille bedspreads, be sure to pad the folds with acid-free tissue paper.
Store rolled spreads in acid-free cardboard tubes. Folded spreads may be stored in acid-free cardboard boxes, a cedar chest or plastic storage bins. You can also store folded spreads on shelves. If you are storing vintage chenille bedspreads in unfinished wood, be sure to wrap the bedspread in cotton muslin or acid-free tissue to avoid possible damage from the oils in the wood.
Rotate your vintage chenille spreads, if you own several. This will prevent damage from storage and allow you to enjoy all of your collection.
