Decide what patterns, items, colors or makers to collect. Feel free to collect them all, but it may be easier to get started by collecting a certain type of glassware, such as tumblers, serving pieces or toothpick holders.

    • 3

Put some thought into how the collection will be displayed. Vases, plates and other various pieces will take a lot of room. Glasses, tumblers or toothpick holders will take less room. Keep in mind the various patterns. Collect the same pattern of various items to be displayed or collect the various patterns of one or two particular items.

    • 4

Before purchasing a new item, check it over carefully for chips, breakage or markings. Hold the glass up to the light and use a magnifying glass to check for small cracks. Be aware that "straw" marks, or marks that are very slight, could be an actual piece of the glass formed during cooling.

    • 5

Many items of EAPG are unmarked. Research the item's pattern and color to discern if it is indeed Early American Pressed Glass. Research the various makers of EAPG also. Sandwich, U.S. Glass, Indiana Glass and Northwood are just a few. Be sure the item is genuine EAPG before investing in it.

Use your Early American Pressed Glass as decoration or use it in everyday living. It is best not to cleanse the pieces in a dishwasher. Handwash or dust them using a damp cloth. Do not display the glass in direct sunlight, as this will harm the glassware.

Enjoy the collection! EAPG is beautiful glassware and comes in so many different styles, shapes, colors and items that just to sit and view it will be a pleasure!
