How to Clean the Face of a Seth Thomas Clock

Richly finished wood, elegant gold face trim and precision operation are all characteristics of a Seth Thomas clock. Though Seth Thomas started as a clock maker in 1810, he began constructing the shelf and mantel clocks he is best known for in 1817. The faces of all Seth Thomas clocks are made of thick, high quality glass. If you've recently picked up an antique clock, you'll likely need to remove surface dust and other residue from the clock's face.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove surface dust from the face using a hand-held air blower. Aim the nozzle away from the face to avoid blowing dust into the clock.

    • 2

Clean away tougher dirt using a duster brush. Move the brush in a gentle, swirling motion to remove as much dirt as possible.

    • 3

Dampen a microfiber cloth with several sprays of glass cleaner. Avoid using too much cleaner, as it may seep through the face's outer seam and into the clock.

    • 4

Rub the clock face gently with the microfiber cloth. Continue rubbing the face, using a new cloth and more glass cleaning solution as needed, until it is completely clean.
