Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure the length and width of the sword you are encasing. If it is a curved samurai or ninja sword, don't measure the actual blade length but a straight-line measurement from the tip of the blade to the tip of the pommel.
Cut a piece of wood that is about 4 inches longer and wider than the measurements you took. This will be the case's backboard. Use wood that is between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch thick. If you plan to display the sword and scabbard separately in the case, double the width length.
Cut more pieces of wood into four planks that will make up the case's borders. These planks should be about 4 inches wide, with two as long as the backboard's length and two more as long as the backboard's width.
Glue the border planks onto the backboard around its edges. Cut and trim the ends of the planks so they will fit around one another.
Take two more wood pieces. Use a jigsaw to cut one or two "hooks" into each piece that the sword--and possibly the scabbard--will balance on. These pieces will be the length of the case's wide-side boards. Glue these pieces to the back board so that they divide the case into thirds.
Detail the case to give it style. Coat the borders and the "hooks" with a natural stain finish. Cover the exposed backboard on the inside with thin carpeting. Wait for everything to dry.
Turn the case on its side so the hooks are pointing upward. Place the sword within the scabbard in the hooks if you only cut one hook on each piece. If you made two, hang the sword on the top hooks and the scabbard on the bottom ones
Create a glass window to protect the sword. Cut a sheet of glass, Plexiglas or thick, clear plastic into a rectangle that will fit within the case's borders on the front side. To get this measurement, measure the length and width of the backboard that isn't covered by the borders. Insert the window into the case so it lines up with the front edges of the borders.
