How to Collect Moorcroft English Pottery

William Moorcroft produced pottery in the late 1890s and early 1900s, first as a designer for James McIntyre and Company of Britain, and then later on his own. His son took over the business and produced highly valued pieces well into the 1960s.

  Read the history of Moorcroft pottery and decide the pieces you want to collect. For instance, William Moorcroft developed Florian Ware, which is done mostly in blue and white. You'll also find the Japanese phase of his work and there are the works by his son.

  Notice the flower depictions on the vases, as well as the birds and wildlife. These are hallmarks of Moorcroft pottery.

  Look at the tube-lining method of design application, another Moorcroft pottery feature. This is a raised outline of liquid clay squeezed through a glass tube.

  Research the pricing to collect Moorcroft pottery pieces. Expect to pay from $200 to $600 for those produced by the company now. You'll pay even more for pieces by William Moorcroft or his son.
