The Ideal Temperature & Humidity of a Humidor

When trying to age your cigars, having the right balance between temperature and humidity in your humidor can create an amazing result to be enjoyed. Though each person has his own individual preference as to how he prefers the tobacco leaves to be, either more wet or dry, the humidity should be adjusted properly to suit this preference.
  1. Function of a Humidor

    • A humidor stores and ages cigars. Proper aging of the tobacco leaves creates a richer cigar that is highly valued. The inner chamber of a humidor works as a regulator to stabilize temperature and humidity, creating the disbursement of oils and moisture in the leaves.

    Humidity

    • Typically humidity should depend on the person's personal preference as to a drier cigar or a wetter one. The humidity range should be anywhere between 65 and 72 percent. The overall humidity should stay constant and not fluctuate greatly in spectrum; this will ensure a relatively even aging and flavor.

    Temperature

    • The temperature should also be regulated to be nearly constant at approximately 70 degrees. Any temperature that is warmer or cooler than this could spoil the whole bunch or wreck havoc on humidity levels. But it is most important to keep the temperature from getting to high, as this could cause tobacco beetles to hatch from the leaves.
