Humidity & Temperature of a Humidor

A humidor needs to be maintained at correct humidity and temperature levels for it to do the job of aging and storing the cigars properly. Proper levels keep the cigars are their best taste and condition.
  1. Temperature

    • Temperature for a humidor affects both the cigars and the humidity level. Too hot and it causes rot in the cigars. Too cool and the humidor will not sustain a proper humidity level -- as cool air requires more moisture, the cigars may become wet and moldy. The proper temperature setting is between 64 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Humidity

    • Maintaining moisture at a constant level is necessary to keep the cigars aging at a consistent rate. A dry cigar that has lost it's flavor is not pleasant, nor is a soggy cigar with a musty taste that is hard to draw. Humidity should be maintained at 68 percent to 72 percent to keep the cigars at their best condition and taste.

    Controls

    • By design, a humidor is built to hold a constant humidity if the element is maintained. A good hygrometer will monitor the levels. Store the humidor in a room that is not too cool or hot for consistent temperature. Keep the humidor out of the sun and monitor the levels regularly.
