How to Get Quarters in a Coin Map

Coin collectors know about the recent series of state themed U.S. quarters. The US mint produced different state-themed quarters that began in 1999 and continued through 2009. Included in these quarters were Washington, D.C., American Samoa, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Displays, known as coin maps, are available to display full collections of the themed quarters. Placing the coins into the maps is dependent on if the map has slots or circular holders.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip the forefinger and thumb of the polishing gloves into some coin polish cleaner. Pick up the quarter and rub it with the forefinger and thumb to keep the coin in mint shape. Polish to shine and remove finger grease.

    • 2

Keep the quarter with the back facing out so the state etching is visible. Locate the same state, territory or commonwealth on the map and push the quarter into the slot so the state is visible and is level with the map (if your map uses slots). Continue placing each quarter into its dedicated slot on the map until it is full with each quarter.

    • 3

Place the quarter, with the back-state facing out, into the small quarter-sized indentation inside the quarter's state on the map. Use the gloves to prevent any finger grease getting onto the coin. Use polish and cleaner if the quarter is dirty or marred.

    • 4

Place the map in a display or under glass to keep the quarters in near-mint to mint condition, thus preserving the value of the coins.
