How to Sell Indian Cent Rolls

Indian Head Cents were minted between 1859 and 1909. The obverse of the coin depicts a stately looking Native American wearing a feathered headdress, while the reverse shows a wreath surrounding the words "One Cent." Selling Indian Head Cents in rolls makes sense only if the coins are low-grade or very common years. Higher quality or rare Indian Head Cents will fetch more money being sold individually.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the roll and examine the coins if you do not know exactly what type of Indian Head Cents are in it. Attempt to sell any Indian Head Cent prior to 1879 individually. Attempt to sell any mint-condition coin individually as well. Grading and value information can be found in a quality coin price guide or online.

    • 2

Rewrap the coins if they are low-quality or all common years. Reuse the original wrappers if you were careful removing them. If not, any penny wrapper can be used.

    • 3

Take the roll to a coin shop. If the coin dealer is interested in buying your Indian Head Cents, he will likely make you an immediate offer.

    • 4

Contact an auction service and see if it would be interested in selling your coins. The more Indian Head Cent rolls you have, the more likely an auction service will agree to sell your coins.

    • 5

Place your Indian Head Cents on an Internet auction website like eBay or a classified site like Craigslist. Set your price and personally control the sale of your coins.
