How to Find Coins in Parks

Fortunate, eagle-eyed individuals have a knack for coming across coins and other discarded valuables merely by visually scanning the ground on which they're walking. For those whose eyesight isn't quite up to this, a metal detector will help locate old and new coins in parks and schoolyards. Due to the popularity of metal detecting as a hobby, you'll need to search more thoroughly in popular public parks that are visited regularly by other metal-detecting enthusiasts.

Instructions

Target historic parks if you're looking for older coins. If you're just searching for change that's been dropped recently, look for parks with heavy footfall. Research local parks online or at your nearest library to determine where to find the type of coins you desire.

    • 2

Set the discrimination on your detector to a low level to pick up on what others may have missed. For example, if a pull tab is above the ground and a coin is buried some inches below, setting your discrimination low will allow you to move the pull tab and re-scan for something more valuable.

Search the park thoroughly and follow your intuition.

Dig up everything that shows a reading.
