Instructions

    • 1

Wash the coins in warm soapy water and clean with a toothbrush to remove loose grime and debris. If a simple wash is all the coins need, buff them dry with a soft towel.

    • 2

Place heavily tarnished coins in a saucepan and fill halfway with water.

    • 3

Crumple a piece of aluminum foil and toss it into the saucepan.

    • 4

Add 1 tsp. table salt and 1 tsp. baking soda for every quart of water in the pot.

    • 5

Boil the coins for up to five minutes. You will know when to stop by looking at the coins to see how clean they are.

    • 6

Remove the pot from the heat and drain the coins in a colander.

    • 7

When cool enough to handle, buff the coins dry and restore the shine with a soft towel.
