Price Guides
A good, up-to-date price guide is the most important resource for any coin collector. A quality guide will not only tell you what your coins are worth but also will tell you the basics of coin collecting, from storage to grading. The Blackbook and Red Book price guides are good options for a novice coin collector.
Internet
A great deal of coin collecting information can be gathered online. Grading companies, such as the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and the National Coin Grading Service (NCGS), are excellent resources. Several other quality websites also exist for coin collectors.
Coin Shops
Coin shops can be the most useful of all the coin-collecting resources. At a coin store, you can examine real coins, purchase price guides and other useful resources, and, perhaps most important, you can speak with the clerk, who likely is an experienced coin collector.
