How to Protect Coins

Coin collecting is not only a hobby that revolves around historical events and cultural evolutions, but it is also a fun hobby that can eventually lead to a valuable legacy for future generations.



Basic coin collections can be stored in a myriad of pouches and containers that will keep them organized and easily accessible. However, coins that are in mint condition and increasing in value with time require storage that will keep them away from humidity, gases and scratches.

Things You'll Need

• Cardboard coin holders
• Vacuum sealer plastic bags
• Vacuum sealer pump

     Insert coin or collection flat in a plastic bag made for vacuum sealers.

   • 2

     Use your hand to press as much air as possible out of the bag.

   • 3

     Attach the vacuum pump to the hole on the bag and turn it on to extract excess air and moisture from the bag. Keep your hand flat on top of the coins to prevent them from shifting.

   • 4

     One all the air has been extracted, you should have a firm 'brick' that can be stored in a dark and dry place, such as a wall safe or collector's box.
