How to Clean Silver Coins With Acetone

Clean silver coins look shiny, white and smooth. Over time, silver coins can build up dirt and residue. Although some collectors advise that cleaning your coins diminishes their value, silver coins can look lustrous and brilliant when freshly cleaned. If you are not selling your silver coins and want to restore their appearance, clean them with acetone (the main ingredient in nail polish remover). This organic compound can dissolve green film on silver coins from storage in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) holders, and remove oils, dirt and residue. With the proper technique, you can restore the original appearance of your silver coins safely and effectively.
