Coin collecting is a popular American pastime with collectors spread across the country. Interests vary, with some collectors focusing exclusively on domestic coins, other preferring foreign coins and some covering a little of both. Coin collectors in Seattle have several shops to visit for purchasing and trading coins to build their collection, while socializing with those that share their hobby.

Northgate Coin Shop
- Northgate Coin Shop, located on Northgate Way, sells rare coins as well as precious metals. The shop is a member of the Professional Coin Grading Service and both a member and authorized dealer of the American Numismatic Association. The shop buys, sells, trades and appraises coinage. Appraisals are free, and they advertise themselves as being able to immediately buy coins of high value. On Saturdays the shop offers a "bid board," where coins go up for bid on that day and can be bid on for a week. Besides coin collection resources, Northgate also offers foreign currency exchange and notary services. The shop is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

West Seattle Coins
- West Seattle Coins is a family-owned business with both an online store and a store that can be visited on SW California in Seattle. They are members and certified dealers in the American Numismatic Association and the Certified Coin Exchange. In addition to buying coins based on their collectors value, they also buy and sell coins based on the value of the precious metal. West Seattle specializes in selling both gold and silver bullion as well as American Eagle coins, U.S. coins and U.S. paper currency. The store does not have a large selection of foreign coins.

- Seattle Coin Shop on 35th Avenue has been open since 1943 and specializes in gold and silver bullion, rare coins and both foreign and domestic currency. They are members of the Professional Coin Grading Service, the American Numismatic Association, the Washington Coin and Bullion Association and the Industrial Council for Tangible Assets. The store is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Their frequent attendance at coin shows affects their opening hours, so visitors are advised to call ahead or set up an appraisal appointment.
