How to Organize a Coin Collection

Whether they contain rare error coins or sentimental favorites, coin collections mean different things to different collectors. To protect your coins, buy materials that will keep them safe from damage yet still allow you to show them off. You can find coin collector supplies for a reasonable price at most major bookstores and hobby stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase cardboard sleeves for your coins. These sleeves are made for coins of all sizes and contain an opening covered in cellophane so you can easily display your collection.

    • 2

Find the right size sleeve for your coin and fold it over the coin so that the coin rests in the cutout. Staple the sleeve together.

    • 3

Make notes about the coin on the sleeve if you wish. Many collectors write the type of coin, as well as the date and mint mark on the front or back of the sleeve. Use a ballpoint pen so the ink does not smudge.

    • 4

Slide the coin sleeve into a pocket of the vinyl sheet, with the front of the coin facing the front of the sheet.

    • 5

Insert the sheets into your three-ring binder, organizing the coins by type, date or any other preference. These sheets hold 20 coins each.
