The Best Way to Sell Bank Rolled Uncirculated 50 State Quarters

From 1999 through 2008, the U.S. Mint struck the 50-coin State Quarter coin set. According to the mint in late 2007, the state quarter program was the most popular coin program in its history, and many coin collectors accumulate uncirculated rolls of the coins. However, not all state quarters were struck in equal amounts. As an example, 1.2 billion New York quarters were struck compared with 520 million California quarters, despite the fact that California's population is about twice that of New York's.

If you have uncirculated rolls of state quarters to sell, the price you receive will reflect the relative rarity of some quarters over others.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the U.S. Mint website and review the production figures for state quarters. Pay particular attention to the mintages at both the Denver and Philadelphia mints; the production figures are not the same. This will help you determine the relative rarity of the coins you wish to sell.

    • 2

Check the catalog prices in your current copy of "The Official Red Book." This will also help determine by mint mark ("P" or "D") the maximum value your coins may have. It's another good guide and the source of unbiased coin pricing information.

    • 3

Contact several online or local coin dealers. Explain that you have uncirculated rolls of state quarters you wish to sell. Provide the dealers with the quantity of rolls, mint marks and states.

    • 4

Ask each dealer for their buy price on the coins. As a general rule, you will receive a higher overall price if you sell the entire lot to an individual dealer.

    • 5

Compare the buy information you receive and select the highest offer.

    • 6

Ship or deliver the rolled coins to the dealer and receive your payment.
