History
The year 1964 was the first that the U.S. Mint struck a coin in honor of Kennedy, who was assassinated the previous year. The reverse featured an eagle clutching arrows and olive branches in its talons.
Composition
The 1964 Kennedy half dollar was the last of its kind to feature a composition that was primarily silver. The makeup consisted of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper.
Values
Because many collectors saved this coin, values haven't historically been high for it. Proof coins and uncirculated examples sell for single-digit prices in 2010 dollars. The coin is prized mainly for its silver content.
