How to Properly Clean Silver Dollars

Silver dollars can become dirty due to being handled by thousands of hands, or by not being stored in a proper container. Soaking a silver dollar in the incorrect liquid may not completely restore the coin to its original splendor. Doing so may also stain the silver dollar, forever ruining the coin.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic container
  • Lemon juice
  • Small iron nails
  • Bottled distilled water
  • Microfiber cloth

Instructions

      Clean your hands thoroughly before handling the silver dollars. Otherwise, you may transfer dirt, oil and grease onto the silver dollars.

      Fill a small plastic container with lemon juice.

      Place two to three small iron nails inside the container. Doing so causes a reaction that speeds up the cleaning process.

      Put the silver dollars inside the container. Place a lid over the container.

      Soak the silver dollars for no more than 30 minutes.

      Rinse the silver dollars with bottled distilled water. Wipe the dollars with a clean microfiber cloth to dry the coins.
