How to Sell Silver Eagles

Since 1986, the U.S. Mint has struck silver American Eagle coins. Produced as both bullion and proof coins, they have become very popular with both coin collectors and precious metals investors. Many of these coins are then professionally graded, certified, and sonically sealed by NGC, (Numismatic Guaranty Corp.) or PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service). As U.S. legal tender, with a guaranteed purity of 0.999 fine silver, and a guaranteed weight of one troy ounce, they are a highly liquid asset which can easily be sold.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult your current copy of "The Offical Red Book." You can use this reference to check the value of your silver coins. Based on the catalog prices, you may wish to sell some and retain others. Coin prices are determined by both condition and quantities minted (commonly referred to as population).

    • 2

Contact several buyers of silver eagles.

    • 3

Explain that you have a quantity of silver American Eagle coins you wish to sell. If the coins have been professionally graded and certified, be sure to convey this information to the dealer as well.

    • 4

Request a buy price quote from each of the dealers you contact. Their offers will be based upon the condition and rarity of your coins, plus the current price for silver on the world market.

    • 5

Compare price quotes/offers and select the highest one you receive.

    • 6

Ship or deliver your coins to the dealer and receive your payment.
