How Do I Clean a Copper Coin?

Instructions

  1. Olive Oil Method

    • 1

Add 1 inch of olive oil to the bottom of a clear glass cup.

    • 2

Place the copper coin in the olive oil.

    • 3

Allow the copper coin to soak in the olive oil until it is clean. This can take as little as four days and as long as several months. While this is a safe method that will prevent the copper coin from damage, it can be very slow.

    • 4

Remove the copper coin from the olive oil and wipe it clean with a soft, dry cloth.

    Petroleum Jelly Method

    • 5

Add a small dot of petroleum jelly to the surface of the coin.

    • 6

Rub the petroleum jelly into the coin gently with your fingertips. This should loosen the grime and any dirt that is stuck to the coin.

    • 7

Wipe copper coin clean with a soft, dry cloth.
