How to Polish Silver Coins

Though tempting as it might be to clean away dirt and grime as soon as you come across it, a little caution is advised when considering cleaning silver coins. Silver coins that are or might be worth something should not be cleaned, or they lose their value. If you have silver coins that have no significant value and could benefit from a good cleaning, then you're in the clear to start a simple process that will leave your coins dazzling.

Things You'll Need

Lemon juice
Bowl
Dish soap
Clean cloth
Bristle brush
Soft dry towel

Instructions

  Pour lemon juice into a bowl or container.

  Place the coins in the lemon juice, making sure that they are completely submerged.

  Allow the coins to soak for at least five minutes to help dislodge any stubborn dirt.

  Remove the coins and rinse them off under warm running water.

  Wash the coins with warm water, dish soap and a soft clean cloth. Use a small, soft bristle brush to help remove dirt in hard to reach places.

  Dry off the coins with a soft, clean, dry towel. Once the moisture is removed, continue to wipe the coins with the cloth to buff back their shine.
