How to Find Gold With a Ground Hawk Metal Detector

More than a century and a half have passed since the Great California Gold Rush attracted thousands of starry-eyed prospectors to the Golden State to seek their instant fortunes. Today, gold prospectors are more likely to carry metal detectors than pickaxes or dynamite and their quest for gold will more often take them to a beach than a mountain or stream, where they can search for gold and other precious metals buried in the sand using a metal detector. What sets the Ground Hawk metal detector apart from others available on the market is that its circuitry allows you to detect more deeply embedded items. This boosts both its accuracy and its success rate.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose an area to go over with your detector. Set the volume up to level six. Point the search head downwards and swing it from side to side. You will hear a steady sound of static. Remember that the device will also detect precious metals that you are not searching for, such as a gold or silver anklet or toe ring.

    • 2

Swing the Ground Hawk metal detector search head over one small area at a time while pulling the trigger. If you hear a clicking sound, this indicates that you are going over metal. However, if you happen to go over precious metals such as gold, silver or brass, the signal will change and the indicator lights will turn green or blue.

    • 3

Place the search head directly over the area where you got a stronger reading. Tune the control to level 15 while sweeping that particular area. This will eliminate the possibility that your detector is simply picking up changes in soil content.

    • 4

Narrow down to the point where you are getting the strongest signal and dig in. Do so gently so that you do not destroy any delicate items you may unearth in the process.

    • 5

Dust off the piece and fill in the holes you have dug. Move ahead and repeat the process.
