Things You'll Need
Instructions
Consider storing your gold coins in a paper envelope. While not as attractive as plastic sleeves, paper is an inert material and won̵7;t react chemically with your coins over long periods of time as plastic would.
Store rare gold coins in airtight capsules made of quality plastic that will not react chemically with the coins. Airtight capsules block out air and dust that can cause deterioration and oxidation over time.
Consider storing your gold coins in a safe deposit box. While this will incur a monthly fee, it will also ensure that your gold coins are kept locked safely away.
If you do not feel comfortable storing your coins outside of your home, keep them locked in a fireproof safe. This will allow you to keep track of where they are at all times and keep them safe in the event of a disaster.
Avoid storing your gold coins in attractive sleeves or cases. While these are popular options, they are also attractive to thieves and ultimately do not keep your gold coins as safe as airtight capsules or paper sleeves. Some plastic sleeves and coin books actually leave a slimy film on your coins that can be difficult to remove if allowed to accumulate over time.
