There are different types of coin collectors. The casual collector usually begins by saving unusual coins that they find by chance. Eventually many collectors graduate to joining coin clubs and visiting dealers or mints to add to their collection.

Most coin collections have a theme to them. Some popular themes include collections that have different mint marks, collections from a particular country, or year, and a combination of different types of collections.
Coin Condition
In North America a coin's condition and value is determined by the Sheldon system in which a particular coin is given a value between 70 and one. A 70 represents a perfect coin.
