Things You'll Need
Instructions
Clean the coins thoroughly. Storing dirty bullion can cause the coins to corrode. Clean your silver bullion with a soft, dry cloth. Make sure there are no stains or fingerprints on the coins. For a more thorough cleaning, sterling silver dip can be purchased at coin and jewelry shops. Sterling silver dip is used to buff and polish silver coins.
Place the coins in a storage container. Silver Monthly notes, "Hard plastic holders are preferable for more valuable coins. They are not known to contain any materials that harm coins and offer good protection against scratches and other physical damage. They are available for individual and small sets of coins." Avoid storing your bullion in a jar or box that will force the coins to rub together. This will cause excessive wear and will reduce the value of your silver coins.
Place the coins in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing coins in an area with humidity. Moisture can cause bacterial growth on silver bullion, which will corrode the exterior of the coins. Home safes or safe deposit boxes are ideal places for bullion storage since the coins will be in a sealed environment.
