Got to the U.S. Mint's website. If you're buying state quarters as a gift or to pass down to future generations, you may want to choose ones that have never been in circulation. The mint sells uncirculated and proof sets, as well as silver proof sets, which cost more but are made of 90 percent silver.
Visit your local coin shop. Coin dealers usually sell uncirculated state quarters and rolls, as well as proof sets.
Bid on state quarter sets listed on online auction sites such as eBay. To use these sites, sign up for a user account.
Go to a coin show in your area. These allow coin collectors to come together to buy, sell and trade.
Save the state quarters you find in your pocket change. If you don't mind collecting circulated coins, you can also go to your bank and buy rolls of quarters at face value. Sort through them to pick out the ones you need for your collection.
