Determine the volume of your Mexican coins in circulation. Research can be done online or by scanning coin-collection books at the library. For instance, the national emblem seen on many Mexican gold coins that reads "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" was introduced in 1905, when 900 5- and 10-denomination pesos also were put into circulation.
Research how much gold is in each of your Mexican coins because the amount of gold greatly influences its value. Many Internet sites will provide you with the specific gold content of each coin. Obtain a live quote of gold's daily value at Kitco.com (see Resources section).
Learn how the condition of a gold coin impacts its value. Many Mexican gold forums stipulate that the estimated value is based on a coin being in "uncirculated condition." This means it looks almost brand new. For instance, an "uncirculated" condition 1945 "dos peso" gold coin sells for about $40. The same coin in nonmint condition sells for half that amount.
Consider the age of your Mexican gold coin. If you are comparing two gold coins that contain the same amount of gold and both are in the same condition, the older one usually will be more valuable.
