How to Make a Felt Banner for Badges

For a scouting badges with matching borders, chose a background one shade lighter than the border. This will allow the borders to be visible without overwhelming the display. Instructions

    • 1

Lay the badges on a large sheet of paper, arranging them in a pleasing display. Space the badges about a third of their width apart. Trace around each badge with a pencil. If desired, make a note of which badge was in each location.

    • 2

Remove the badges and draw a rectangular border, one badge-width wide, around the outside of the design.

    • 3

Draw an additional line 4 inches above the top of the rectangle and extend the sides of the rectangle up to this line. This allows for a casing.

    • 4

Cut out the pattern for the banner by cutting along the outermost lines.

    • 5

Use the pattern to cut a felt banner.

    • 6

Fold down 2 inches at the top of the banner. Sew 1 1/2 inches from the fold with a straight stitch to make a casing.

    • 7

Turn the banner over and pin the badges to the side of the banner without the casing, following the pattern. Sew the badges to the banner by hand or by machine.

    • 8

Display the banner on a 1-inch dowel or curtain rod.
