How to Frame a Signed Football Jersey

A signed football jersey can be a valuable investment, as well as a source of pride for a football fan; however, if you do not protect a signed football jersey, it can become damaged, and thus, worthless. Framing a signed football jersey is one of the best ways to protect it, as long as it is done properly. For starters, you must use a shadow-box style frame rather than a flat frame to prevent moisture build-up under the glass.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the foam board and background fabric to the proper size to fit into the shadow-box frame you are using to mount the jersey. Place glue around the edges of the foam board and the fabric. Put them together. Iron the fabric on low to activate the glue.

    • 2

Position the jersey with the signed side facing up onto the fabric-lined foam board. Fold the sleeves inward and down, flattening them out so you can fully see the numbers on the shoulders.

    • 3

Thread the needle with invisible thread, which is similar to fishing line and will not show on the jersey or damage it.

    • 4

Sew a few small stitches through the jersey and into the fabric backing to secure the jersey in place. Good places for stitches include either side of the neck, along the sleeves to hold them in place and along the side of the jersey. If you need to fold up a portion of the bottom of the jersey, add a few stitches at the bottom to hold the fold in place.
