Be Prepared
Once you have determined the time and location of the autograph session, make plans to travel to the event. Consider the popularity level of the celebrity and whether you need to arrive early.
Bring a camera and make sure the batteries are fresh and that you have plenty of film or memory available. You do not want to keep the celebrity and other fans waiting as you figure out why your camera will not operate.
When choosing an object to be signed, make sure it will not offend the celebrity in any way.
Bring a New Permanent Marker
In case the celebrity does not have a pen, bring a new permanent marker with you. This way, you will have a reliable writing instrument that will not run out of ink as the celebrity is trying to sign your keepsake. And, of course, offering the celebrity a permanent marker will insure that her signature will remain on the item for a lifetime.
Be Polite
Decide in advance that you are going to be polite and courteous to everyone at the event: the celebrity, security guards, the other autograph seekers, and the people accompanying you to the event. You do not want a rude comment or an inappropriate act to tarnish the experience or prevent you from getting an autograph.
Lower Your Expectations
You may have spent hours reading about the celebrity whose autograph you seek. You may have watched him or her perform on television on numerous occasions. You may feel as if you know the celebrity personally, but the reality is that you do not.
The celebrity may not be in a great mood during the autograph session. He or she may not want to engage in a conversation or take pictures with you. So be it. Your mission is to get your items autographed. If you have a friendly conversation with the celebrity, relish the moment. However, do not expect it.
