Instructions
Lay the jersey flat on your work surface. Place a PVC T fitting on top of each shoulder. The top bar of the T should run along the shoulder seam, and the downward extension should fall comfortably inside the jersey's side seam.
Measure from the bottom opening of the T fitting to the bottom of the jersey. Cut two straight lengths of PVC pipe to match this measurement. If you would like the jersey to be raised above the stand, cut the two lengths of straight PVC pipe longer than the measurement. These can then be cut down later if you wish to adjust them.
Slide one end of each straight PVC pipe into the bottoms of the T fittings, then slide a flange on each free end of the straight pipes.
Raise the two PVC pipe units, flange-side down, to stand on the 2x4. Place the jersey over the PVC pipes, and adjust the placement of the pipe units until the shoulders are properly supported and the jersey hangs attractively. Mark the locations of the flanges.
Remove the jersey, and cut down the straight lengths of PVC if necessary.
Remove the PVC units and cut the 2x4 down to size. Replace the PVC units on the marked locations, and secure the flanges to the wood with nails or screws. Replace the jersey on the stand and display.
