Things You'll Need
Instructions
Have your collection authenticated. Verify you have actual photographs of San Francisco pre-1906. Your local museum or historical society should be able to help you. Try to determine who the photographer(s) is/are -- some photographers' work is valued higher than others.
Sell your photographs online. You can always sell your San Francisco photos via Ebay. Not only will your items be made visible to the interested public, you can compare and determine the going rate for similar items. Take digital photos of your pictures or scan them so you can post the images on Ebay. If you don't have a Paypal account to receive payment for your sales, sign up for a free account.
Sell directly to the public. If you have a shopping mall in your area, ask when the next antique show will be. Small vendors are often welcome at these events, so take a folding table and a chair and sell your San Francisco photos to mall shoppers. Check with your local flea market and reserve a space to sell the photos there. If there is an antique mall near you, arrange to sell the photos on consignment.
Offer the photos to a museum. If the photos are in excellent condition, there is a chance a smaller San Francisco museum may be interested in them. The museum won't offer you very much money, if any, for the photos.
Sell the photos to vintage photo collectors. Historic Camera buys vintage photographs, as does Ralph Deluca.com. The websites may ask to see some of the photos, so have them scanned or digitally photographed before contacting these sites.
