Antique &Vintage Plates
Dinner plates with older and hard-to-find patterns or designs are a favorite of collectors. Antique Wedgwood china in discontinued patterns and vintage Fiesta plates in colors no longer manufactured are just two examples of highly sought-after items in this category.
Souvenir China
China manufacturers such as Wedgwood, Royal Copenhagen, Bing &Grondahl, and Wood and Sons began making and selling souvenir china in the late 1800s. These plates often depicted holidays, pastoral scenes, churches, and other buildings or nature scenes. Blue and white was a common color combination for these plates. Sets may include one plate for each year, each season or each holiday. Christmas and Mother's Day themes are commonly featured on souvenir china.
Limited-Edition Commemorative Plates
These plates are usually manufactured and sold in a limited number to commemorate important or popular occasions, events, TV shows, movies, celebrities and other pop-culture icons. Princess Diana, presidents, athletes and musicians---as well as characters from Star Trek, Looney Tunes and Harry Potter---have been pictured on limited-edition commemorative plates.
Lead-crystal Art Plates
First manufactured by Lalique Fine Crystal in 1965, these artfully etched crystal plates quickly became a collector's item. According to World Collectors Net, Lalique plates represented "the first plate introduced to the U.S. market which was not blue and white, not porcelain and not for Christmas."
