Disney Trading Pin Rules

Disney pins are sold by the millions each year, and collectors can choose pins from their favorite rides, movies and characters in the Disney parks and stores. Part of the fun of a Disney vacation is pin trading--swapping your pins with another guest or a Disney employee. This is particularly fun for kids and lets their pin collection grow with them. A child who adores Handy Manny one year may want to trade for pins from "Star Wars" the following year. Pin trading is free and can be done at scheduled events or whenever two collectors decide to swap.
  1. Is Your Pin Tradeable?

    • To be considered for trade, a Disney collectible pin must be made of metal, be in good condition and represent a Disney character, location or event. Pins that have been purchased in a Disney theme park or Disney store are tradeable. Some pins from Disney partners are tradeable as well, as long as they relate to Disney World or Disneyland in some way.

    Trading With Other Collectors

    • Pins should be traded in person, on a one-for-one basis. Each collector needs to determine what makes a pin valuable to him and trade accordingly. Pins can be worn in the Disney parks on lanyards, bags or clothing and can be traded at any time.

Collectors interested in trading can also attend a trading event. These events take place in the theme parks and resorts. The schedule and location vary. Consult the tip board at the theme park or your resort activity schedule.

    Trading With Cast Members

    • Pin collectors can trade with cast members at the Disney theme parks and resorts. Cast members wearing lanyards with pins are willing to trade up to two pins per person per day. Most deluxe Disney resorts offer a pin trading station with a large collection of pins available for trading. Look for a pin trading notebook at the Wilderness Lodge and a frame packed with pins at the Contemporary and Animal Kingdom Lodge.

    Trading Etiquette

    • You can approach any cast member or guest who is wearing pins to see if she wants to trade. Do not grab or touch a person's pin collection without asking, and let your trading partner know which of your pins you are willing to trade.

Tip: Cast members will trade anything on their lanyard with kids under 12.
